if anyone has taken the mcat, when is the best time of the year to take it? I know there are subtle differences and the difficult varies slightly as well. Any thoughts?

Hey there - I'm in medical school right now. There really isn't a best time to take it - the test is graded on a curve that is normalized over all the exams. Basically, all the tests are about the same level of difficulty. That being said - if you take it at the same time as people who are gunners and are likely to get a high score, it will skew the average. In my experience, this happens in the spring/summer. I took it in the fall and then again in the winter.
